The thing Kaye loved most about Margate, said close friend and neighbor Gerry Schweitzer, was that she could walk around Margate without any makeup on. She loved the city and its people, and would help anybody who needed help. She really felt at home here, Schweitzer told MargateNews.net.

Kaye had a heart as big as City Hall, she said. She is truly the First Lady of Margate.

Kaye Stevens died Wednesday December 28, 2011 at the Villages Hospital in Central Florida at age 79. She is survived by friends. After a memorial service at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Wednesday, Stevens was interred in a chapel mausoleum.

Now in its 7th year, benevolent organizations and citizens in Margate teamed up on Saturday to keep the spirit of St. Nick alive and well in the hearts of local children in a program called "Shop With A Cop."

Each armed with a $100 Wal-Mart gift card, about 70 disadvantaged kids ages 4 through 17 shopped the aisles of the retail giant buying gifts for family, friends and themselves.

Does Santa Claus really exist? Margate "Shop With A Cop" may be living proof.

Attention Margate ladies! Whatever you do dont throw that used bra in the trash. From July, 11 to August, 14 Soma Intimates at the Promenade in Coconut Creek will find homes for gently used bras.

"When we learned that there are thousands upon thousands of women across the country desperately in need of a bra, we knew we had to do something to help," said Laurie Van Brunt, Soma Intimates' Brand President. "A bra is one of the least donated but most needed items, and it makes a big difference to women who are struggling financially to even put food on the table. It's such a small and easy thing to donate, and it truly helps these women who are working each and every day to get their lives on track."

The truly authentic Margate St. Patricks Day Parade is a best kept secret in Margate going on six years now. Unlike sister St. Patty Day parades taking place across South Florida over the weekend, the Margate parade happens smack dab on St. Patricks Day in celebration of the [linkstart href=http://www.history.com/topics/who-was-saint-patrick[linkclose]patron saints death[/linkend] on or about March 17, 460 A.D.

Festivities begin with a mass at 7:55 a.m. on Thursday at [linkstart href=http://www.stvincentcatholicchurchmargate.org/events.html[linkclose]St. Vincent Church.[/linkend] The parade of more than 200 marchers then originates at 9:30 am. at the Oriole Gardens III clubhouse on the corner of Atlantic Boulevard and 76 Avenue. The public is welcome, said parade Chairman Peter Nelson.

Margate Street Festival 2010: Get onboard now!

This years inaugural Margate Street Festival in February was an overwhelming success. In excess of 5,000 people attended the event, say police, and stories of vendors selling-out of goods and making profits came into the Margate Chamber of Commerce one after the next. O'Malleys ran out of ribs, service providers acquired tons of leads and live entertainment -- from dance to music to performance art -- was non-stop. It was a world-class affair and the first of its kind in Margate.

So, is there money to be made in 2010?

The Harley Drill Team was like synchronized swimming on motorcycles and the classic car show was a main attraction for kids, families and gear heads. The tantalizing smell of fried chicken filled the air, as did flamebroiled ribs, burgers and ethnic delights.
