Bravo Margate Italian

As a kid in the seventies I remember messages on Mr. G's billboard-sized-sign along State Rd. 7 that were both entertaining and informative of specials and events at the restaurant.

At the time, Mr. Gs was part of a typical night on the town, where couples came from miles around to enjoy fine Italian food, friends and dancing in Margate.

Margate Commissioners to Oppose Term Limits

Each year Margate city officials send a wish list of issues they want state lawmakers either to support or oppose during the spring legislation session in Tallahassee. The list is compiled by the city manager and put before commissioners for approval.

This year, city officials in Margate are requesting that Governor Crist and the Florida Legislature oppose Senate Bill 598 and House Bill 495 intended to mandate Term Limits for elected officials at the municipal level.

Margate Drinking Water Just OK

According to reports published by the Environmental Working Group, the quality of Margates drinking water has improved significantly in recent years. The sum of disinfection byproducts over the legal limit dropped between years 2004 and 2008 and levels of contaminants exceeding health standards remained relatively unchanged.

Overdevelopment and urban sprawl in South Florida has resulted in drinking water laced with agricultural and industrial pollutants and a slew of chemical disinfection byproducts associated with the water treatment process.

Teens call it "Marghetto"

My jaw dropped when a Margate teenager within earshot referred to Margate as Marghetto. I had to ask why and the high-school-age girl responded with because its like a ghetto. Thats why we call it that.

As it turns out, more of these leaders of tomorrow lack a positive image of Margate, which could pose a detriment to the way people perceive the city for generations to come.

Taking with a grain of salt what these teenagers had to say, their perceptions reflect a glimmer of truth.
