The Code Review Committee reccomended allowing for gravel driveways as an addition to  a driveway. One of the main reasons was due to exactly what Mr Brooke wrote. Another was it was a less  expensive alternative to needing extra parking space, example  you have children they have cars you add a gravel driveway to accomadate the cars, children grow up and leave you can throw sod over the extra driveway that you no longer need if you want. We fought pretty hard to get the recomendation passed by our committee, we worked with DEES to come up with something that would work for the city and residents. I am sure there is a copy of the recommendations at the city clerks office. If you want gravel driveways in Margate contact a Commissioner and ask about it.
