Margate Ace is the Place
They don't have one in Coral Springs

We caught Pete Toemmes coming out of Margate’s Ace Hardware on what first glance is a fascinating transportation alternative to both motorcycles and cars.
It’s a Cam Am Spyder, says Pete, a “reverse trike” available from Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) out of Canada. Pete said he used to ride a Harley, but the wife would never get on back. Things have changed since he introduced a Spyder into their relationship, and with ABS brakes, vehicle stability control and electric assist power steering, they’re both riding around town having fun.
“One thing I know coming from a big Harley touring bike, three wheels are more stable than two. No worries about sand/gravel/oil in the road in mid turn. Perhaps that’s why, much to my pleasant surprise, my wife has ridden passenger with me on the Spyder where she never would on the Harley. No more two wheels for me,” said Pete.
The Spyder gets about 30 MPG and handles more like a snowmobile than a motorcycle. Probably because BRP leveraged their expertise with SkiDoo, Pete said. It’s considered a motorcycle in the state of Florida and requires a motorcycle license.
As a Coral Springs resident, we asked Pete what brought him to Margate.
“We don’t have an Ace Hardware in Coral Springs, he said, “and I finally found the spring I’ve been looking for.”
