It could be fewer cars on the road or fewer people passing through Margate. One thing is for sure. Traffic accidents and injuries are down in Margate.

The number of traffic accidents in Margate has dropped nearly 30% since 2003, according to MPD statistics – and the number of traffic injuries about the same. Most frequent accident locations include Southgate Blvd and State Rd 7; Royal Palm Blvd and Rock Island Rd; Winfield Blvd and N State Rd 7; and Colonial and N State Rd 7.

Highest accident days in Margate are Monday and Friday and most accidents occur between 11 am and noon, and 1 pm to 2 pm.

Advice for spring breakers and others passing through Margate:

 Pay attention to speed limits. We have lots of 25 MPH zones, school zones and seniors. Margate cops have no tolerance for speeders.
 Don’t drive through town loaded. You’ll spend at least one night in the lockup.
 Don’t wise off to a Margate cop. They hate it.
 Don’t run stop signs. Female cops are less merciful than the men.
 Watch out for speed traps behind ficus hedge and bus shelters.
 We have at least two very creative motorcycle cops in the city. They seemingly come from nowhere and nail you quick for speeding.

Margate Police are ruthless when it comes to traffic offenders. It’s all part of living and working in a safe town.  Although most of us would like to get off when caught, let’s face it, we’re all better off driving with care and our families safer for it.

Don’t say nobody warned ya’!
