It spread like wildfire through the community. Taqueria Michoacana had just been robbed at gunpoint and the alleged perp snatched the tip jar. This happened on Jan. 22, sometime in the afternoon while regulars sipped draught at Mugshots and sales girls with headsets roamed outside the insurance office next to the barbershop.
“Gunpoint?” I asked a source at the scene.
“Yep, that’s what one witness said.”
Police responded quickly and canvassed a four-block radius looking for what some identified as a new homeless guy in the area. In the end, it turned out that there was no gun involved…maybe. The woman working at Taqueria Michoancana changed her story three or four times, said one source, in fear of persecution by the INS.
