The word Chakra is Sanskrit and signifies the seven basic energy centers in the body. Each of these centers correlates to major nerves branching forth from the spinal column. In addition the chakras correlate to levels of consciousness, developmental stages of life, colors, sounds, body functions, and much, much more. They are the openings for life energy to flow into and out of our aura. Their function is to vitalize the physical body and to bring about the development of our self-consciousness. They are associated with our physical, mental and emotional interactions.
Every day we stimulate our chakra centers in one way or another. For example, through the different thoughts we have or physically through our senses. Daily we energize our centers, consciously or unconsciously, through various methods.
Following is a brief description of each chakra.
_______________
Chakra Seven: Crown Chakra (violet)
This is the crown chakra that relates to consciousness as being pure awareness. It is our connection to the greater world beyond, to a timeless, space less place of all-knowing. It connects to thought, identity, and to self-knowledge. When developed this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss.
Chakra Six: Third eye (indigo)
This chakra is known as the brow chakra or third eye center. It is related to the act of seeing, both physically and intuitively. The light within oneself, individual identity, and self-reflection opens our psychic faculties and our understanding on many levels. When healthy this chakra allows us to see clearly, in effect letting us "see the big picture." I like to think of this chakra as the all knowing, and all seeing third eye chakra!
Chakra Five: Throat Chakra (blue)
This is the chakra located in the throat and is related to communication as in sound and creative identity along with self-expression. Here we experience the world symbolically through vibration such as the vibration of sound representing language.
Chakra Four: Heart Chakra (green)
This chakra is called the heart chakra and is the middle chakra in a system of seven. It’s related to love, and air, social idenity and to self acceptance. It is the integrator of opposites in the mind and body, male & female. A healthy fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, and have a deep sense of peace and centeredness.
Chakra Three: Solar Plexas (yellow)
This chakra is known as the power chakra and is located in the solar plexas. It rules our personal power, our will, as well as our metabolism. It’s associated with the element fire. also ego and self defense, When healthy, this chakra brings us energy, effectiviness, spontaneity and non dominating power.
Chakra Two: Sacral Chakra or Sexual Chakra (orange)
This second chakra is located at the abdomen, lower back and sexual organs. It is related to the element water, and to our emotions and sexuality. It connects us to others through feelings, desire, sensation and movement. Ideally this chakra brings us the ability to accept change.
Chakra One: Root Chakra, or Base Chakra (red)
The first chakra is located at the base of the spine forms our foundation. It represents the element earth, and is related to our survival instincts, and to our sense of grounding and therefore a connection to our bodies. This chakra brings us health, prosperity, security and a strong sense of presence.
Each of these chakras should be in alignment. When your back or hips get out of alignment you will make a trip to the chiropractor's office for a spinal adjustment.
Similarly, a healer trained in manipulating the flow of energy can assist you in getting misaligned chakras back to functioning properly. It may take one or more appointments with a practitioner to get your energy levels up to par. Afterwards, there are a variety of healthy actions you can take to help keep your chakras open, allowing your energy to flow naturally, healthily and safely. How do I know this……….because I am you!
