City making it easier to serve beer at events
A cold one on a hot summer day makes all the difference

In response to frequent requests by private event coordinators across the city to serve beer outdoors at their events, the city’s Development Review Committee introduced an ordinance Thursday that would make it easier for both non-profit and for-profit organizations to set up beer service outdoors.
_______________
Presently, outdoor beer service at a festival or event is handled on a case by case basis – and usually only allowed to be served indoors in a controlled environment.
The new law would automatically allow for the serving of beer outdoors at an event, provided the applicants meet code and permitting criteria - criteria that addresses the safety, health and well-being of event participants and Margate residents at large.
Event planners will still have to apply with the state for a temporary beer permit, but at the local level the process would be streamlined.
Margate City Planner, Ben Ziskal, said that because beer is such a popular beverage at events there’s no reason why people should have to go inside to drink one, especially during the hot summer months when having a cold beer outdoors makes a festival experience all the more enjoyable.
The ordinance was passed by the Development Review Committee on July 1 and is scheduled to go before Planning & Zoning and then onto the City Commission for final review.
