There's a new business doing well selling liquor and lap dances at the edge of Margate’s Community Redevelopment Area to the south.
The only problem is the Beer Garden at 238 N State Road 7 isn't licensed to sell either product or service. In fact, Margate law prohibits these activities under the same roof.
_____________
Thirty-five dollars for a private lap dance and about $3 for a well drink left one Beer Garden patron with a smile on his face Saturday night.
According to the customer's account of his experience at the Beer Garden, the establishment is operating three lap dance booths (aka champagne rooms) where girls dance in skimpy bottoms and tops and grind their way to the delight of the male libido.
View craigslist ad advertising the Beer Garden as a "New Gentlemen's Bar" in Margate.
The Beer Garden, operated by AMG Ventures LLC and owner Meir Golan of Parkland, was granted a 2COP license to sell beer and wine by Margate City Commissioners last month.
According to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the Beer Garden has a license to sell beer and wine, but no license to sell liquor.
Golan also operates MEGA Massage Club at 8426 W Oakland Park Blvd in Sunrise under ficticious name Mega Tan.
City code prohibits lap dancing in Margate, as it is unlawful for any entertainer, performer or employee, while on the premises of a commercial establishment regulated under city code Section 19.2 – Nude or semi-nude entertainment, “to sit upon or straddle the leg, legs, lap or body of any patron, spectator or other person therein…”
Lap dance patrons at the Beer Garden are not allowed to touch the girls or themselves while in the booths, and the girls don’t get naked – but do caress themselves and rub patrons in a sexually exciting manner while dancing.
Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your moral compass, the Beer Garden is conducting activities not afforded other bar owners in Margate - bar owners who make it a point to comply with local laws and who pay high licensing fees and taxes for the privilege to sell liquor and offer nightly entertainment.
