How would you like to attend a free party with 37 million other people? That’s how many turn out for National Night Out in 16,000 communities across the U.S. the first Tuesday in August every year.
2010 marks Margate’s 10th Annual National Night Out. Based on past estimates, police are expecting 5,000 plus attendees.
_______________
On August 3, from 7 to 10 p.m. the Margate Police Department, in conjunction with the Margate Parks & Recreation Department, will be showcasing displays and activities by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies at Margate’s Sports Complex 1755 Banks Road as part of the city's National Night Out celebration.
K-9 Cops, police helicopters, armed personnel carriers, SWAT trucks, Mobile Command Vehicles, guns, police motorcycles and cool police gear will be among photo-ops for kids and families, and plenty of free hot dogs, popcorn and snow cones will be on hand until supplies last.
Free gun locks too for you Second Amendment fans.
Celebrated nationwide since 1984, National Night Out was founded by the National Association of Town Watch and developed as a means of strengthening the camaraderie between citizens and police, which, according to Margate Crime Prevention head, Tony Careccia, has never been better.
“Year after year the whole community shows up for this,” said Careccia, “It’s a testament to the support we get from residents and the faith they have in us to keep them safe.”

_______________
Margate’s National Night Out will be funded this year by the city’s Law Enforcement Trust Fund in an amount not to exceed $12,000.
There will be free parking located near the Sports Complex.
National Night Out is an excellent opportunity for the entire family to come out and enjoy the displays and activities, meet members of the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as meet federal, state and local law enforcement officers, security companies and officials from the City of Margate.
