Margate Police responded to shots fired call at Ambiance Creole Restaurant, 1027 N State Road, Sunday May 16 at 3:30 a.m. Police arrived to about 200 hundred people in the parking lot, according to a Margate police report, and witnesses on the scene said many in the crowd looked like minors.
“The cops had their hands full,” one witness said.
_______________
Ambiance Manager, James Merovee, told police that it was the restaurant’s grand opening party and everything was running smoothly until a fight or commotion broke out in the parking lot.
Merovee said customers thought they heard shots, causing everyone to run.
Officers canvassed the area but were unable to find any evidence that a gun had been fired, states the police report. Nor were police able to make contact with witnesses to shots being fired.
Although classified as a Bar / Nightclub in the Margate Police Report, Ambiance Creole Restaurant has no license to sell beer, wine or liquor. The business is a new tenant to the Margate Community Redevelopment Agency and the owner said he didn’t know he needed a license to throw late night parties.
“Business is very slow and we’re doing whatever we can to bring business in,” the owner said. “We have lots of graduations coming up.”
