The 76-unit condominium complex off Atlantic Boulevard in Margate has been given a one-month extension to pay the city $19,000 in arrears owed for water. The city originally scheduled water shut-off for May, but concluded at a recent city meeting to continue service at the expense of taxpayers.

Still in debt to Margate taxpayers for $19,000 ($23,000 with fines), the Palms at Atlantic Condominium Association is in shambles.
Though almost half the units in the complex are unoccupied, some occupied units have stopped paying association fees.
Board members have quit, and when passing the hat from unit to unit to collect whatever they can from whomever they can to pay bills, the hat comes up short.
Margate Mayor, Joe Varsallone motioned at the meeting to give Atlantic Palms residents one more month to pay—in the hopes that they will—so that they can avoid diseases associated with poor sanitation, bad hygiene and the absence of running water.
