Margate city officials approved a motion last month to move forward with the Local Agency Program Agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation for the design and construction of a new sidewalk on the east side of Rock Island Road between Atlantic Boulevard and Royal Palm Boulevard.
_______________

The estimated cost of the sidewalk is $350,000 with $300,000 funded by an FDOT grant and the other $50,000 paid by Margate taxpayers in a city matching agreement. The city must complete the project by December 31, 2011 as a prerequisite to receiving FDOT funds.

Proposed new sidewalk features include ADA bus landing pads, ADA curb ramps, and new guardrail and pedestrian traffic railing on the east side of the street.
