Northwest Medical Center in Margate has announced establishing an open heart surgery program scheduled to begin by the end of 2010. The new program will enhance cardiovascular services already offered at the hospital, which include elective and emergent percutaneous angioplasty, state of the art coronary imaging services, expert cardiologists, radiologists and clinicians.
_______________
“The addition of an open heart program will allow us to provide advanced cardiac care for our patients. All of us at Northwest Medical Center are extremely proud of this accomplishment, which shines a light on the quality of care we provide to our community,” said Northwest Medical Center CEO, Dianne Goldenberg.
The expansion and construction includes open heart surgery suites and a cardiovascular intensive care unit — all utilizing state of the art medical equipment.
Patients will be able to continue their heart-related care at the hospital, making it more convenient for their families during the recovery process.
Dr. Eduardo Sabates, Medical Director of Cardiovascular Services at Northwest, believes the expansion of services will better serve Margate and the surrounding community.
“The medical staff at NWMC is committed to continuing the long tradition of excellent care in this new and exciting service,” said Dr. Sabates. “The NWMC staff worked extremely hard this past year to reach this goal and will continue to excel in providing excellent cardiac care and treatment.”
Board of Trustee Chairman, Dr. Randy Burks, expressed enthusiasm as well.
“After watching the incremental steps NWMC has taken as it prepared to implement the open heart program, I am extremely excited and optimistic that this center of excellence will soon become a premier location for cardiac surgical care in Broward County.”
Chief of Staff, Dr. Peter Gach, pointed to the dedication of those involved in the expansion, calling it a milestone for the hospital, while practicing Cardiologist, Dr. Craig Hostig, believes the community is fortunate that NWMC is providing a state of the art, open heart surgical program that will significantly strengthen the cardiovascular care NWMC already provides.
Over the past 50 years, significant progress has been made in the battle against heart disease, stroke, and other forms of cardiovascular disease, say experts at the American Heart Association. Improved diagnosis and treatment have been remarkable - as has the survival rate of heart patients.
