Street Festival crowd dancing in the streets

British R&B soul singer Maxine Nightingale had the crowd up and dancing at Margate’s 2nd Annual Street Festival downtown last Sunday, when she rocked hundreds of fans and festival-goers. Afterwards, the 1970's pop icon, known for ‘Top 40’ hits “Right Back Where We Started From” and “Lead Me On” milled around with Margate’s finest; Chamber of Commerce heads, local dignitaries and residents.

“Maxine was on fire,” said Carol Johnson-Greff of Shane Le Mar Entertainment, the agency responsible for booking Nightingale at the Street Festival. “From ages 7 to 70, people were dancing in the streets.”
Nightingale continues to perform at venues around the world, so she’s still at the top of her game, said Johnson-Greff.
As striking and energetic as she was in the 1970s, Nightingale made a lot people in Margate dance, sing, laugh and smile—and forget about their toils for awhile.
Also performing at the street fest was Doo Wop / Pop Rock group The Five Burroughs, performing hits from the 50s and 60s and bringing back fond memories for Baby Boomers and the retired.
No doubt about it. There was something for everyone at this year’s street fest. Bounce houses, finger and face painting, comfort foods galore, hot rod cars, motorcycle daredevils, top notch entertainment and the support of city officials and local business leaders.
Can’t wait ‘til next year!
