Margate City Commissioner, David McLean, said allegations made by MargateNews.net that his bar was closed by the Florida Division of Alcohol, Beverage and Tobacco were false.
Yes, he was on the state's no sale list, McLean told MargateNews.net outside city chambers Wednesday night and yes, his bar is now closed.
No, he wasn’t shut down.
“I sold it,” McLean said.
______________
McLean’s Bar & Grill, similar to other businesses in Margate, has struggled in a down economy. Despite the best of intentions, McLean failed to make it in what was years ago a thriving business district in Margate.
Working against McLean was the worse economy since the Great Depression, coupled with a city where the supply of burger and beer joints, pubs, draught houses and bars far exceeds demand.
What Margate doesn’t have is a strip club. The first to open one of these is sure to cash in.
