Margate’s Hair We R Unisex Salon in the Ace Hardware Plaza on Margate Boulevard has asked landlords, the Margate Community Redevelopment Agency, for a reduction in monthly rent. Although salon owners were not present at the MCRA meeting Monday night, Margate Commissioner David McLean made a motion to charge tenants in the Ace Hardware Plaza a maximum $10 sq. ft., effectively granting the salon's request.
_______________

McLean says he doesn’t want an empty plaza and there isn’t much more to it than that. Commissioner, Joe Varsallone seconded his motion. Commissioner, Pam Donovan, on the other hand, did not, saying she is tired of the city renegotiating already below market rents offered by the MCRA.

Donovan expressed concern over other businesses in the plaza wanting reductions in their rents too, but after defeating Donovan 2-1, McLean said that the MCRA will judge future requests for rent reductions in the plaza on individual merit, come what may.

Only three of five MCRA board members were in attendance Monday night, absent Mayor Arthur Bross and Commissioner Frank Talerico.

MCRA officials are also working with Ace Hardware Plaza tenant, Trattoria Bella Cibo, a quality downtown Margate restaurant that as of January was three months behind in rent. Bella Cibo owners have agreed to make double rent payments and be caught up by May 1.

If things are looking up for your family’s budget, now is the time to support Trattoria Bella Cibo. The food is delicious; they have a full bar, outdoor café, entertainment and daily specials. They are indubitably an asset to downtown Margate and the surrounding community.
