The Margate Police Department, the Coral Springs Police Department and several other agencies in Broward County are investigating a fraud scheme involving the Rama Lama Mortgage Company and its owner, Roger Miller.
_______________
According to reports, Miller approached most of the complainants at the Oriole Golf and Tennis Country Club. Miller offered them a business opportunity to invest in mortgage notes with promises of high returns. Miller would take the money from the victims promising large payouts at the end of varying length contracts. As victims attempted to contact Miller, they found that he had fled the country and was not paying out on the contracts.
As some of the contracts have not yet reached the maturity date, the Margate Police Department is seeking assistance in locating other possible victims of this scheme.
Anyone that has invested with the Rama Lama Mortgage Company or its owner, Roger Miller, are encouraged to contact either Detective Lori Eller of the Margate Police Department at (954)935-5445 or Detective Robert Ames of the Coral Springs Police Department at (954)346-1281.
Tips on avoiding investment fraud
For the like-minded, "Rama Lama Ding Dong" was a Billboard Top 100 Hit in 1961 written by George Jones and performed by an Ohio-based doo-wop group called the Edsels. Singer songwriter Roger Miller, famous around the same time, was well-known for the hit song "King of the Road."
Sometimes you can see a scam coming and sometimes you can't.
