Due to the rising number of abandoned and foreclosed homes in the city, Margate Police are urging residents to report abandon and un-kept properties to the Neighborhood Policing Division at 954-972-1232.
Since the inception of the city’s abandon property ordinance, code compliance officers have identified almost 600 vacant or abandon properties in Margate and believe many more exist.
Margate’s abandon property ordinance requires banks and absentee owners to register abandon properties with the city to ensure that minimum property standards are met. Currently, Margate’s Parks and Recreation Department is working hard to maintain these homes, say city officials, but there’s still much work to be done.
City officials send kudos to residents whose quality of life has been impacted by ugly houses and who have been proactive in helping to clean things up.
“We truly appreciate the work of conscientious neighbors that take it upon themselves to assist by cutting the grass, picking up debris or engaging in other caretaking of vacant homes. We are here to take that burden away from you,” states a press release issued by the Neighborhood Policing Division.
To report abandon properties and homes in disrepair, call the neighborhood police at 954-972-1232 or send an email to VacantHomeReport@MargateFL.com.
This will enable city officials to initiate the formal process of taking the burden off you and placing it on the banks and absentee owners.
