Every three years the Margate Police Department undergoes a voluntary evaluation process conducted by national and state accreditation agencies designed to ensure maximum public safety through the rigorous review of MPD policies, procedures, management, operations and support services.
_______________

As part of the on-site assessment conducted by both the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement (CALEA) and the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA), the public is invited to offer comments on MPD services and performance at a public information session scheduled for Sunday, August 16 at 7 p.m. in Commission Chambers at City Hall.
_______________

The Margate Police Department, headed by Police Chief Jerry Blough, is the first police agency in Broward County to be accredited by the CFA. The review process is very strict, says the Chief, as indicated by the 463 CALEA standards and the 83 CFA standards his department needs to meet in order to maintain “the highly-prized recognition of law enforcement excellence,” said Blough.

The MPD has met CALEA accreditation standards in 1997, 2000, 2004 and 2006, and CFA standards in 2000, 2003 and 2007. Again this year, the Chief intends on maintaining accreditation from both agencies, which signifies a high-level of public confidence in his department. A recent Citizen’s Satisfaction Survey conducted by the department shows that 93 percent of Margate residents are confident in the MPD's ability to deal with criminal activity and address neighborhood crime problems.

“Accreditation continues to reinforce professional excellence in the department,” said the Chief. “Each time it’s a learning experience.”
