Plaza Demolition
News update

June 25, 2009
Readers have been emailing MargateNews.net regarding the demolition of the old Dollar General Plaza. Here are some answers:
1. The demolition project wasn’t sent out to bid, but according to state and local laws, CRAs (Community Redevelopment Agencies) and city governments can secure services without utilizing the bidding process provided they follow proper procedures in determining the “like” to “like” nature of the work and leave a clear and concise paper trail of procurement. This often saves taxpayers time and money.
2. Three proposals were considered for the demolition contract, city officials chose the lowest bidder, Rick Hamann & Sons Demolition Inc. at a cost of $114,000.
3. The date for demolition has not yet been set, as the Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (MCRA) is waiting for FPL and Bellsouth to remove their services from the building.
Once demolished and the debris cleared, the area will be sodded and the land will remain in the MCRA portfolio for future development.
